Conventionally, there are four types of connectors that can be connected via FPC or FFC. The first two connectors listed below are not typically used in portable products, but will facilitate the development of connectors used. Each connector type has advantages and disadvantages. Low Insertion Force (LIF ) connectors use older technology and feature a one-piece design with no moving parts. The flexible substrate is simply inserted into the connector, providing a very simple assembly fit. However, apart from the soft bends, LIFs have little holding power since there is no mechanism to maintain the bends in place. There are also considerable limits on size and spacing.
Slide-Lock Zero Insertion Force (ZIF ) connectors use older technology that pushes into flex boards without insertion force. And it has to be switched manually. The assembly process of the sliding lock partition is complicated, and it is prone to errors and breakage when touched during the assembly process. In addition, horizontal assembly is also possible, with limited dimensions and spacing. The Flip Lock ZIF connector has evolved from a previous design and is widely used in mobile products.
